The second round of the 2025/26 Viking Marine sponsored Frostbites, hosted by Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, came under the race management of DMYC’s Immediate Past Commodore, Ian Cutliffe, as this correspondent was otherwise engaged. Ian had his work cut out for him because from early in the week the weather forecast of XCWeather and latterly the Met Eireann forecast weren’t offering a great deal of wind. This was manifested on the water and while the Turkey Shoot earlier in the day had gone ahead, their racing was ultimately abandoned due to a lack of fair winds. So, it is to Ian’s credit that he persevered and got a single race completed.

In the PY fleet there was some excitement when handicap times were calculated as a former Aero 7 entrant sailed with an Aero 9 rig and appeared to waltz away with a win on both the water and on time. However, a timely prompt from the race committee highlighted the error and a more acceptable result was the outcome – though the Aero 9 did save its place at the head of the finishers on both the water and on paper. Sean Craig and Stephen Boyle achieved another podium place on corrected time with the perennial Noel Butler taking the third spot on corrected time.

In the ILCA7s the triumvirate of Conor Byrne, George Kingston and Matteo Valentini took the top three places, while in the iLCA6s, Conor Clancy led the fleet home followed by Darren Griffin and Shirley Gilmore.  

In the ILCA4s the first three boats brought new names to the fore relative to the previous Sunday, with Patrick Fegan, James Crawford and Kate Spain taking the 1-2-3 on the water.
